ACUPUNCTURE FOR CHILDREN

CARING FOR CHILDREN’S HEALTH WITH ACUPUNCTURE IS A SPECIAL PART OF OUR PRACTICE.

Parents are often surprised at how gentle and enjoyable acupuncture can be for little ones. It’s a very different experience from the image most people have of needles, and children usually leave their session feeling calm, settled and cared for.

We use acupuncture to support a wide range of childhood concerns, including digestive issues such as constipation, tummy aches, reflux, or food sensitivities; sleep difficulties like trouble falling asleep, frequent waking, or restless nights; and immune support for children who often catch colds, ear infections, or lingering coughs. We also support emotional well-being, easing anxiety or intense feelings, while gently supporting healthy growth, development, and overall resilience.

Sessions are short, playful, and always adapted to each child’s comfort level. We show them the tools, let them explore, and move at their own pace, never forcing anything. Children are naturally responsive, and improvements are often noticed quickly.

In the clinic, we often use Toyohari tools, which are specially designed Japanese instruments that never pierce the skin. They are simply rested on, or moved over the surface of the skin, to help rebalance the body’s energy. Children usually find this enjoyable and intriguing! Depending on the child’s age and willingness, we may sometimes use very fine acupuncture needles or other supportive methods, such as press-tack needles or ear seeds, which are always applied gently and only if the child feels at ease.

We may also use acupressure, which involves applying gentle pressure or massage to certain points on the body. Kiddies usually respond beautifully to this type of treatment, as touch is already such a natural way they experience comfort and reassurance.

One of the most-loved parts of a treatment is the use of moxibustion, also known as ‘moxa’. Made from the dried herb Mugwort, it can be applied as tiny warming cones that stimulate certain points or an area, or with special tools such as the tiger or elephant warmer, which create a soothing, nurturing heat.

At Vessel, children’s acupuncture sessions are brief, playful, and tailored to each child’s comfort.

We show them the tools, let them explore, and move at their own pace, never forcing anything. Children are naturally responsive, and improvements are often noticed quickly. Parents often share that their child seems more balanced, resilient and settled afterwards. We love working with children in a way that feels safe, respectful and encouraging, so that their experience of acupuncture is a positive, gentle and nurturing one.
